Collection: Keren Lasme
Keren Lasme is a photographer, visual artist and independent researcher based in
Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire) and working around the world. She holds an MA in African
Studies from SOAS University of London with a major in African philosophy, a discipline
which highly influences her art practice. She describes herself as an aesthete and a
storyteller who uses art to explore the Self and communicate her inner landscapes. Her
work and visual language are meant to elevate the spirit and sometimes help to calm
the mind. Through photography, collage, video art, installations and writing, Keren
experiments with thoughts, ideas and states of mind. iéfo, her adornment-making
practice stands as a study of the Art of Adornment à l'Africaine (AAA) and African
Aesthetics. Keren’s art practice - through which she reclaims the dreamscape and
shares fragments of wonder, beauty and mystery, is a reflection of her constant search
for transcendence. She won the 2021 Prince Claus Seed Award for her cultural project
Kokoba: Meeting Our Griots / Á la Rencontre de nos Griots which is an extension of
her interests in literature, especially African literary arts.
